Applied through recruiter, had an initial phone interview with the director and was asked to come in for a face to face with the Test Lead. (I was told it was going to be a Skype interview but he just ended up phoning me, even though I had to add two people on my Skype for this process) I was told the interview would last about an hour with me talking about my C.V and a small test. Arrived and talked for about an hour then I was given a piece of paper with a scenario and two questions and asked how I would test this, I had to write all this on a white board which I did but had run out of room and continued on paper. After this the Lead Tester decided to then spend another 30 minutes talking unnecessarily about Stakeholders and what my vision of a perfect company/Team would be. He wanted all this written on the white board and talked about in gruelling detail. At this point I had been there for two hours, in a hot office meeting room and finished off the interview. Recruiter called me back few days later and gave me one vague excuse why I was not suitable and when I asked for an actual genuine feedback it was not given.
The job spec was of a basic manual tester job and I had all the skills, I have now found a Senior job which I managed to get with an hour simple face to face interview. My advice is to let candidates know before making this odd 2 hour interview processes, and asking questions that are not even relevant for the role. I know this because I have now conducted an actual senior role interview and I know the interview processes the Tester did was wrong.
