I applied online for a position and had my first interview over the phone. There were some significant issues with the interview process. First, I received a text from the Head of Recruitment just as my interview was scheduled to start, asking to reschedule without providing any explanation. I agreed and asked for a new time, but I didn't hear back from them for another two hours. I sent an email to the HR department, expressing my understanding of the situation and requesting a rescheduling. Surprisingly, I received a call within five minutes of sending the email. They explained that they had to deal with an issue within their team, causing the delay. The interview itself was far from what I expected. It felt more like a casual conversation over the phone, with constant interruptions from barking dogs, opening doors, and other background noises. The majority of our discussion revolved around the interviewer's own career, with only a brief mention of the role I had applied for. During the conversation, we did discuss salary, and they asked me to send a text message after the weekend if I was interested in moving forward. They mentioned that if I wanted to proceed, they would arrange another interview involving both them and their boss. Following their instructions, I reached out to them, but unfortunately, I never heard back. To my surprise, I received a rejection email, and when I explained the aforementioned issues, I was told that my salary expectations were too high, which was completely untrue. When I asked for an explanation, they provided a different reason, stating that I didn't "score as high" as other candidates. I was absolutely shocked by this inconsistency. It was evident during the "interview" that the interviewer wasn't taking any notes. This made the experience feel like a complete waste of time. The entire process was highly unprofessional, and based on my experience, I have no intention of considering Skanska for future job applications.
