      Web Developer Interview

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at SiteCare

      Interview

I applied online, then corresponded via email and answered a questionnaire based on my skills. Then I had an hour or so long interview with the hiring manager/technical department head. Everyone I interacted seemed fine, professional. The technical assessment is where I started to see some red flags. They wanted candidates to develop a full WordPress page, copying an existing page, which included custom post types, custom Gutenberg block, and filtering capabilities. We're easily talking 8+ hours of work, plus providing your own hosting for this page. I asked if they offered a stipend or other compensation for my time spent on this assessment, and they said they did not budget any sort of compensation for technical assessments. I wouldn't necessarily expect my full hourly rate, however, I've typically received stipends of around $200 as an acknowledgement of labor performed, especially if the assessment isn't pared down to 2-3 hours worth of work. My gut told me it wasn't a great fit. I withdrew my application after that.
