Overall positive. First was a phone interview, prior to coming in the office for an in person interview with 3 employees. Interviewees took turns asking questions prior to the presentation I gave. It seemed like a positive work environment, and the receptionist was very kind.

I applied online. I interviewed at Simon Family Foundation
Interview
After my initial phone screening, I had a Google hangouts interview because I would be relocating for this position. I thought it was really nice how they accommodated for my long distance. They ended up being 50 minutes late for the video chat! I tried calling and emailing the person who scheduled my interview several times but received no response, and when I finally got the hangouts call nothing was mentioned about their tardiness. Regardless, the interview went well. I had to prepare a 5 minute presentation about an example workshop I would do with high schoolers. I was called the following week saying I was now being considered for their new location in San Diego because I was a "strong candidate." They said I would receive a call within 2 weeks from the new executive director. 2 weeks came and went and I heard nothing. I tried following up by email and got no response. It was an incredibly disappointing experience for an organization I was so excited to work for.

Question 1
Do you have experience working with students on the common application?
I applied online. I interviewed at Simon Family Foundation (San Clemente, CA) in Oct 2016
Interview
I applied online and received a call the next day, which ended up being a phone interview. The person was nice, everything went well, and she scheduled an interview. I met with her and a young administrator. The Foundation helps and mentors disadvantaged and hopefully college-bound high schoolers. I felt the interview went well and believed it would be a great job for a really important cause. I'm an experienced writer and editor and was looking for part-time work nearby. About two weeks later, I was called in for a THIRD interview with two more people, which lasted over an hour. Again, I felt it went well. They gave me a test in which I wrote a teen's bio--similar to what the person in the position would do. I have an extensive online portfolio, but understood that every interviewee should be treated the same. Then I waited. And waited. And finally wrote the person who originally called me. She emailed back and said they decided to hire a full-time office assistant and I might hear in a few months if they needed help with writing. Basically, I felt they didn't know what they wanted. And, I felt like I was strung along--three interviews for such a small company and a part-time job? Really? I felt like it would have worked out, but that there were younger people making hiring decisions, they prolonged the process, and were disingenuous. I hope things improve and they mature; the cause is an important one.
