I applied to Mentor Graphics, based in Grenoble, via the career website of Siemens.
Within 10 days, I received a phone feedback from their HR resource in Leuven, Belgium. Quick questions about my profile, interest, motivation, availability.
I then had a Skype interview with 3 different people: the manager of the group who was recruiting, an expert in software development, an technical development engineer of the team.
The interview took approximately 2 hours. I sent them beforehand slides of my achievement and education, in order to help them grasp my competences and my profile.
This interview was not particularly hard. The question was mainly if my competences can fit their requirement and if I am motivated for the position. It was really nice from them that they took the time to present their industrial sector (which I wasn't familiar with) as well as the job and tasks.
They tested me regarding my CV and presentations, but it was more to understand my level and where I would need to improve.
Within a couple of days, they told me I passed and invited me to visit their company and group in Grenoble (exactly Montbonnot St Martin).
They paid for the train, the hostel and we went to the restaurant for lunch. That's really nice from them. Thanks.
The interview took one day with:
- meeting with the group manager
- meeting with C++ expert to test my abilities (questions about POO, coding projects, what I did, and tests on paper where they gave me some code I needed to debug). Nothing crazy if you have good basis about C++.
- meeting with the technical expert about my PhD. Presentation about the task they want me to do and what it gonna bring me as skills.
- meeting with the site manager about the company in general
- meeting with a product engineer about the product they are developing, the market, the future of the sector, etc...
- meeting with HR for salary, working condition, benefit presentation
Overall, it was a long day but a really nice day. I learned many things and managed to get a nice idea of the job and the company. I wasn't stressed as they were very friendly. Their intention is to evaluate a "feeling" with the candidate and see if that can fit, not to test them in an hardcore manner.
They confirmed me I was taken 2/3 days later. I receive the contract 1/2 weeks later (it took some time).
