      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Shurr Adventures (Yellowstone National Park, WY) in Jun 2023

      Interview

I applied for an opening at this company that needed to be filled immediately. The interview process was rushed due to their pressing need to fill the role, but overall pleasant and straightforward. I was offered the job and accepted; I received the employee handbook and employment contract, which I signed and returned. I was in the process of purchasing the necessary gear and outfitting my vehicle to live in Yellowstone, when I received a text (not a call) from the owners saying they had hired someone else and my employment contract was terminated. They were very rude and disrespectful, and I was quite frustrated as I had already changed my plans and invested into nonrefundable travel. I would not recommend interviewing with this company; while they appear professional and offer competitive wages, they do not treat employees with respect and do not honor contracts.

      Question 1

What does your experience in outdoor guiding look like?

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to take the opportunity to respond to these allegations. After the contract was signed, things began to change. New demands were made that hadn’t been discussed prior, and your arrival date was pushed back by over two weeks, which was not acceptable or previously agreed upon. Due to the time-sensitive nature of the role, we were forced to offer the position to someone else. When that person accepted, we informed you that the job was no longer available. We called multiple times to explain this to you, but because we didn’t hear back, here are the main reasons why we made that decision and chose someone else over you: • Impractical travel plans: While you initially indicated you could be to our location and begin working quickly, you later insisted on a road trip to another state for certification, which was impractical and added unnecessary delays during our busiest time of year. We offered certification 1.5 hours away, but you did not accept this. • Lack of communication: After several attempts to contact you via phone call, we were forced to send a text to inform you that the job was no longer available. The response we received was angry and unprofessional, which reinforced our decision to hire someone else. • Team fit: We had concerns about your ability to fit into our team, especially after receiving a late reference with feedback about previous disruptive behavior. We prioritize teamwork, professionalism, and respect, and we felt that you might not be a good fit for our culture given the issues mentioned. • Choosing a stronger candidate: Ultimately, we hired someone who could start on time, was easy to get a hold of, and was a great team player. This person didn’t take advantage of our situation, showed respect for our processes, and was committed to working with us to ensure success. We understand this might be frustrating, but please understand that we had to make a decision that was best for our team and our company. This has only happened twice in 20 years, and we don’t take it lightly. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Sincerely, Alli Shurr Shurr Adventures

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shurr Adventures (Naples, NY) in Mar 2021

      Interview

The interview process was very straight forward. I had a couple phone call conversation, as well as proof of my guiding certifications. They were kind, helpful, and gave an elaborate and realistic breakdown of the job details, pay and housing situation.
