      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shopify

      Interview

A week after I applied for the position, the grueling interview process began with a simple phone call. Everything seemed to be going well, after an initial phone call there was a Skype Interview followed by a "Homework Assignment" (that took hours to complete as you are left to navigate their various help sites and respond to forum posts on topics you would only know if you were already an employee of the company). After the homework assignment has been completed you must have another phone interview with someone else at the company where you are to explain how to use a cloud based application. The last hoop you are required to jump through is what they refer to as "The Gauntlet" which requires you to set aside 4 hours of time to answer questions a customer has asked and then be graded on your answer. You must keep correcting your answer based on the feedback you are given by yet another employee with the company. The Gauntlet was very unorganized and took much more time than necessary as answers were not graded right away but you had to sit and wait for them to come through since you are being timed. After the Gauntlet I was told a decision would be made in 2 days time. Each step of the way I was told I had done a really good job. The whole interview process took 4 weeks and countless hours of preparation and even arranging for childcare to ensure I would be uninterrupted. It took 3 weeks (not 2 days!) for someone to get back to me about the job. I sent messages and emails to each person in the interview process trying to find out if I was still a candidate but no one even bothered to respond, not even to say "we are still deciding." Nothing. 3 weeks later, I receive a short email saying "we've chosen another candidate." The interview process is a huge waste of time but Shopify does not see it that way. They do not see you as a human being whose time is valuable to you and your family and do not respect your job search process. I agree with others who say they use these "interviews" as a way to get free work out of you. My advice, keep looking for an employer that will respect you and your time.

      Interview

its a very long interview process. First you apply online, then it's a mock email, then phone interview then the gauntlet. They're super selective in their hiring, but its worth it in the end

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Jan 2018

      Interview

I applied to Shopify in December 2017. I applied online and had to build a trial store for the application, which was a little tedious but I was glad I took the time to do it. They've since changed their hiring process so it's no longer mandatory but optional (I highly recommend doing it, it will give you a feel for their platform). Within a couple weeks I had heard back from them and scheduled my "Life Story" call, which was strange at first but it was relaxed, it was more of a conversation than an interview. I was told at the beginning of the chat that I would know at the end of the 30 mins if I had made it on to the next step or not, luckily I did and I was on to the Gauntlet. I received an email shortly after to book the Gauntlet, I chose to book it for the following week - giving myself some time to study (I think this has also changed, they are trying to line it up to be right after your Life Story call). The Gauntlet was 1 chat, 1 email and 1 phone call. Remember to breathe, and really listen to the "Merchant". Don't make assumptions, and try to be as natural as possible. After I finished the Gauntlet (which was 45 mins) I was told I'd hear back regardless within a few days, which I really appreciated. Who likes waiting around to know if they got the position or not?! At the end of day 2 I received an email saying I'd got it, SO exciting! The overall process did involve putting some time into it, but it was a great experience and you have to appreciate that they're trying to make sure you're a good fit. But it also allows you to see if you would like it as well. My advice - if you get an invite to the Life Story, and this is a position you really want, start doing your research and digging deeper. Look through the help sections on their website, and the forums for commonly asked questions etc. Try to find those answers for yourself. They won't try to trick you, everything they ask is online somewhere. And if you haven't done so by this point, build a trial store. It will help you navigate and get a better handle on it.

      Interview

First the application which generally building a shopify store, then the life story with a member of the recruiting team, then moved onto the Gauntlet which would "simulate" a day in the life of-or rather bits and pieces of all of the CS tasks.
