Hi and thanks for the feedback - we really appreciate hearing from candidates. It’s true that the interview process at Shopify is intensive. We invest so much time and energy in our recruitment and interview process because we know that it’s the people - and the new ideas, energy and perspectives that they bring to the company - that makes Shopify an amazing place to work.
We really value diversity of thought at Shopify, which is why we have candidates meet with a broad range of people, both technical and non-technical, junior and senior... we use this same principle in purposefully looking for candidates who will bring new perspectives and experiences to our teams. We’ve also found there are some key characteristics, like self-awareness and authenticity, that show up in people of all kinds of backgrounds. People who demonstrate these qualities tend to be really successful at Shopify, and as such we consciously look for these indicators of success in candidates as well.
As a candidate, we recognize it can so disappointing to invest time in an interview process, and not receive an offer at the end. While it’s hard to let people down in this way, we know it would be far worse to bring someone into a position and environment were we didn’t think they would succeed.
