I applied through other source. I interviewed at Septodont (Cambridge, ON) in Mar 2026
Interview
The interview process consisted of three stages: (1) online assessment and screening questions, (2) a Teams interview with an HR representative, and (3) a final interview with the department manager.
I completed stages one and two and was invited to proceed to stage three; however, I chose to withdraw for the following reasons.
During the stage two interview, I was informed that I did not meet the experience requirements for the role to which I had applied. While I appreciate that assessment, I was then told I was being considered for a lower-level, unadvertised position that did not align with my previously stated salary expectations. This possibility was not communicated prior to the interview, and had it been, I would not have proceeded.
Additionally, I found the discussion around education to be concerning. After I outlined my academic background, the interviewer did not explore whether I had additional relevant training or ongoing educational goals. I was also advised that advancement beyond the department level would not be possible without a science degree. While I understand that certain roles require specific technical qualifications, this statement suggested a narrow view of career progression and transferable skills.
Finally, I experienced the overall tone of the interview as becoming dismissive as the conversation progressed. This left me with concerns about the professionalism of the interaction and the broader workplace culture.
Given these factors, I decided to withdraw from the process. Overall, I question the rationale for advancing my application to the interview stage only to determine I was not suitable for the original role, while simultaneously proposing an alternative that did not meet my expectations.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Septodont (Cambridge, ON) in Sept 2022
