I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sephora (Cherry Hill, NJ) in Oct 2013
Interview
After the initial group interview I was called back for a makeup demo.
After arriving I was taken back and interviewed by the store manager. Basic questions...style influences, interests, career goals, etc.
I was then taken out to the floor and stood there as the manager asked several customers for makeup application demo by me. After 5 minutes he selects a woman who did not seem at all interested or thrilled with the idea. As I was applying her makeup he was busy running around picking out make up and brushes for me to use. The technique I used required water to moisten the brush for liner. No water at the station...he goes to get some. This whole time I was talking to this lovely lady asking her what she did for a living, etc. I finished her look and was taken out into the mall and sat down. He told me my technique was good but I didn't talk to her. I told him I did and what I asked and her replies. He asked me more questions and said "Good luck, I will call you next week regardless , and let you know our decision". I never got a call. Maybe because I mentioned I was nervous.
Since that time I have been in that store shopping and saw the same manager. He recognizes me but avoids me. He needs follow up with his interviews. Not professional at all.

Question 1
What didn't you like about working for your past employer? (loaded question)
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sephora (Burlington, ON) in Apr 2016
Interview
I applied through the Sephora careers website where I uploaded my resume. I've been in retail for 4 years and only had 2 months of experience as a cosmetician for Shoppers.
I had a total of 3 interviews (1 on the phone and 2 face to face)
First Interview - Phone
This was just like a screening process, very easy only lasted about 10 minutes. You want to make sure that you sound very excited and bubbly on the phone, from there I got invited to a group interview for the following week.
Second Interview - Group
The group interview lasted about an hour but when you're actually in it, it doesn't feel that long at all! It was very relaxed an comfortable. They want to see that you're a team player and have an awesome personality so make sure to create conversation with the other girls or boys in the group interview with you, this will really impress them.At the end of the week I was called by the store director to set up my third interview.
Third Interview - Demo
This interview included myself along with the store director and assistant manager, it was a lot easier than the first interview. Don't get intimidated by the fact that you're getting interviewed by two people in management, they make you feel very welcome! Just like the first two interviews, I would advise to be confident, bubbly and outgoing. They also asked me to do a demo which just consisted of me selling a "product" to the assistant manager as if it were a real life consumer. They don't care if you have any product knowledge, what their looking for is how you talk to the consumer. I waited about 5 days until the store director called me again stating that I got the position and while on the phone she gave me my schedule (I started exactly a week after the phone call)
Sephora hires based on personality and experience in the beauty industry is a plus. They are looking for people who are long term and not just applying because they need PT work. so make sure that you are showing long - term commitment with the company.
REMEMBER TO BE YOURSELF!!! Your confidence will show through if you go in there like you already got the position (don't be cocky tho!)
