1st the HR person that contacted me could not tell me anything about the position. Then when I arrived for the interview the person that I was supposed to be talking to was 8 minutes late and asked me to wait another 10. After waiting to be seen for almost 20 min he asked me about 2 minutes’ worth of questions about my current job before asking me what my current salary was. In the state of New York this question is illegal to ask. My response was can you tell me about the pay scale for the position & the responsibilities of the role. His response: we are hiring for multiple roles. My response can you tell me what those roles are. To which he replied, “this interview is over”.
All of this could have been avoided if 1 the HR person had been able to review this over the phone. I wouldn’t have bothered to come in. Again, questioning like this is illegal in NY perhaps they are exempt because they are privately owned, but it is obvious to me that their goal is to low ball applicants as much as possible. You should be paid for the job that you do previous pay is irrelevant.
