I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Sandy Springs Police Department (Sandy Springs, Fulton, GA) in Jul 2016
Interview
Applied online, interviewed in person and was chosen for the position. This entails filling out a background packet that goes back in your history to fifth grade so it takes a few days. Then they start the background. After a few weeks, the background is wrapped up and you are scheduled for your polygraph and then psych exam and drug test. Beware: something that I went over from my youth (experimenting with drugs, 28 years ago - average teen age curiosity level type thing) in my interview disqualified me BUT they continued the process and wasting my time and tax payer dollars with the process even though I should not have even been called back from the beginning. I got to almost the end, I passed the polygraph and a contingent offer of employment (about 5 weeks in) when I was told there was "miscommunication" and I am no longer considered due to the fact I tried a drug when I was 16 and this was information they had from the interview, 5 weeks earlier. With a passed polygraph, they knew that I was truthful AND that I only tried a drug as a child. They also knew that in adulthood, I am not even a drinker. (These are questions in the polygraph test) While they have a truly drug free force (as in never even tried a drug) they are, obviously, incompetent. I have been an investigator for over 15 years so I know the process well and that would not have slipped past me or any of my former coworkers. Keep in mind this was only for a Records Clerk position that pays what I was making in 2001 and not a police officer or investigator position. It would have been nice to have a job right down the street from home and I really liked the person that I originally interviewed with but, in the end, I would have left the job if that level of incompetency was in every department in the police department.
