I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SHIELD in Sept 2020
Interview
Interviewer started 20 mins late, first red flag.
Backend developer came as interviewer for frontend position, second red flag
Basic questions asked like difference between JS frameworks, how to optimise code and algo time complexity.
Interviewer was expecting very textbook answers, like I explained React’s performance is better due to it’s node diffing algorithm, but interviewer said no its due to Virtual DOM (face palm)
Guys if somebody is saying React is faster due to virtual dom, then he/she hasn’t worked on frontend technologies as startup and running speeds in Angular or React isn’t significant, what really cuts the bar is how one can implement Immutability and functional components in much modular way which makes React faster
Next day they informed the recruiter that I had been rejected as they were looking for someone with higher experience in backend.
We are sorry to hear about your experience interviewing with us. Most of our interviews start promptly however on rare occasions, the preceding meetings can take longer to wrap up. We always strive to give candidates as much notice as possible if a meeting is delayed.
Our technical interviews are always conducted by our senior tech leads who all have extensive experience recruiting for our team. We are surprised to hear that you had been informed that the reason for your rejection was inadequate backend experience. We evaluate our candidates for this position on a myriad of qualities and competencies, of which backend development skills are a bonus and not the deciding criterion. It is unfortunate that this miscommunication happened and we resolve to do better. We will continue to improve our interview processes and thank you for your time and feedback.
