The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at SBLI USA (Woburn, MA)
Interview
I met with 7 people - the entire Actuarial Dept. All went well with the first 6, who would include peers and upper mgmt to the position. 2 of them even said I appeared to be qualified and acted as if I had a good chance of getting the job. Then I was brought into the woman who would be my boss and she took one look at me, and got a nasty look on her face... puzzled, I continued to be pleasant and answer her few questions. (And yes I was appropriately dressed up). She barely asked me anything and within a few minutes the interview was over. I’m not sure what her problem was but I suspect age discrimination (I’m in my 50’s).... not that there aren’t other qualified applicants or they have to hire me but her almost immediate dismissal of me makes me curious?? Too bad as the others seemed pleasant.
To Employers reading this: please don’t try to rectify this by telling your hiring managers to interview older people longer so they don’t appear to be discriminative..... please do make sure that the people who represent your company and hire personnel are only in those positions when they treat all people the same regardless of their age, weight, sex, color or country of origin.
