I went through several rounds for a Technical Support Engineer role at Rootly, including a technical interview and a full take-home assignment. I was genuinely excited about the opportunity—this was one of the few companies where I felt like I was almost at the finish line.
Then, out of nowhere, I received a “hiring paused” email. No context, no follow-up, and no one replied to my emails after that—not even the recruiter. I later saw others posting about receiving offers after the pause, which made the silence even more confusing and frustrating.
This is not how you treat candidates who’ve put time, effort, and trust into your process.
