I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Roku (San Jose, CA) in Dec 2021
Interview
It was horrible. The recruiter didn't give any contact information in case of emergency and he didn't provide the zoom link. The time for the interview was put in two time zones - one zone in the invitation, another zone in the text body. It confused both interviewer and me. Both of us made mistake so we were able to meet. But there wasn't any zoom link. The interview was over the phone with SQL challenges on hackeerrank. Questions were ambiguous and the interviewer was no help at all. For example, they do not explicitly say which columns they want in return - average column or average with a month or all previous ones plus year. Plus I guess because of poor phone connections interviewer couldn't get my questions or..... because it would always take me time to get any response from the interviewer. And when I was explicitly asking which columns you want me to return or what exactly it's meant in this question (this or that, what do you want?) - it was no clear answer. As well as interviewer had struggles to explain what they wanted at the end of the day.
Also, they don't let you pick at the data you are working on. They don't let you work in steps to arrive to the solution. So, select * from table limit 5; is prohibited.

Question 1

Technical Interview with project manager. Interview consisted of 3 coding challenges and a case study. The interviewer was 15 minutes late and did not give that time back to complete the interview
Was given a sql screen. Answered all questions correctly and was given very positive feedback after by the interviewer. For whatever reason I did not hear anything back at all even with follow up emails. The exact same position is still up on their website 6 months later and being reposted regularly on LinkedIn.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Roku (New York, NY) in Feb 2026
Interview
Recruiter screening: Very straight forward with a lot of technical questions (a bit too technical for traditional recruiter screenings so be ready was surprised when the recruiter asked me a couple medium level SQL questions about CTEs and Joins)
Technical interview: Hackerrank interview, you can actually run the code and see if your output is correct, 4 problems total, I got 2 correct and two incorrect but close but still did not pass this round
For the technical interview they will ask questions related to the role the team does so study questions related to that
Got ghosted by the recruiter after asking for specific feedback
