TLDR: Got ghosted after final rounds (post virtual on-site interview)
I have never written any review, but for the first time I had to. Of all the tech firms that I have ever interviewed with, I have never had an instance of being "ghosted" in the final round. Worst experience
Step 1: I had a quick intro call with recruiter, fairly standard, had a really nice conversation. They set up another interview with the Hiring Manager within 2 days.
Step 2: Interview with HM went really well, we spoke about the role, etc etc. Immediately got a call for a at-home test that evening (was really impressed with the turnaround time)
Step 3: I was asked to quickly schedule another discussion round with HM as they were supposed to go on a leave. I accommodated that request and took time off on Monday to make sure it was convenient for them. During the call, it seemed to go really well, I presented and answered all the questions.
Step 4: I was immediately asked for an on-site virtual interview with 5 people the following Monday (a week later - i had given option for monday/tuesday).
On-site: Spoke to 5 people, really great conversation, 3 stakeholders and 2 team members
I will give it to the recruiter for sharing information on what i should prep for prior to the on-site, really appreciated that on their end. (I had asked if there was anything i need to be cognizant of, was told could have a live case study - maybe or maybe not, I prepared anyway)
Here's where it gets interesting, I asked on the timeline of updates. I was told I would get a response in 3-4 business days (when the hiring manager is back from the vacation). I followed up after 4 business days for an update.
I was told that the team was interviewing other candidates and wouldn't have answer for me when they decide, which was told me would be end of the following week (which is after 6 business days).
I followed up on the 7th day - no response.
I followed up 5 business days post that - no response.
And I let it go.
What I really wished was an answer - was i selected? was i not? I wasn't even expecting a feedback at that point. I got no response from anyone on the team. I understand that its hard to respond to every single person interviewing at early stage, but once someone has been to the final round (and finished it), have the decency to update them.
It was really unprofessional on the entire team to never respond or tell me anything.
While the company does have the higher power, the candidate does put in efforts as well. The decent thing to do is let them know.
