      Space Mechanical Engineer I/II Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Rocket Lab (Long Beach, CA)

      Interview

Had an interview for Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA. Initial with the Lead Mechanical (which was about your background and small technical questions) and 2nd one with the mechanical engineer in their team. Both rounds are technical, but not sure if they are looking to hire an entry-level / associate-level position. It sounds like they are looking for a more experienced engineer. 2nd round asked for more fundamental engineering stuff. But some topics were very particular and you won't know unless you took a specific class for it. The interviewer will not even guide you to assist if you can approach for an educated answer. If you get it wrong that is it. Overall, I get that it is still in a start-up phase, but they need to relax on how it filters people. Your experience doesn't matter unless you can pass their technical questions. Sounds like they do not know where to put you in and don't have a particular role they want to assign you until the first day of a job. If you are an entry-level looking to build experience, apply somewhere else where it is more organized and has a proper job function description.
