Reached out by recruiter after applying online. Had initial conversation with hiring management which went well. Scheduled a virtual onsite the following week which included a case presentation to a panel. This is where the horrible experience happened.
One interviewer during the case presentation was extremely disrespectful and was blowing his gum during my presentation. I could not help but notice this distraction especially when the size of the bubble was so large that it blew up all over his face. This required him to rip the pieces off his face as I answered questions from the panel. I had a bad feeling prior to the final round that this individual would be bias towards me, given I spoke to him a few weeks prior for a role in his team. I immediately got a stand offish vibe from him during that first call, where he expressed no interest in getting to know me. Fast forward again to the final round of a different role, he did not acknowledge our prior meeting and was awkward through out the entire conversation. Given his more senior presence, his posture impacted his other colleagues which resulted in moments of very awkward silence after I completed my presentation and was waiting for their questions.
I noticed there are many ex-Uber employees at this company which speaks to the toxic culture I see breeding from an outside perspective. I am thankful this experience happened early on as it would of been much worse if I had to work with this type of person. This company is looking for a certain profile and does not value background diversity. If you are not ex-Uber, and you don't pass some vibe check, you will waste your time preparing for this company.
I have 10+ years of professional experience and have interviewed across many industries. I thought investment banking interviewers were the worst but they are sweet hearts compared to the experience I received from this person at Workrise.
