      Product Development Interview

      14 Mar 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Mateo, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Reputation (San Mateo, CA) in Jan 2010

      Interview

Originally contacted by a recruiter for an opening at this startup. Selling points were charismatic founder, a lot of publicity, nice offices, etc. Had two phone interviews with the hiring manager. During the first one, the HM was over 20mins late. Scheduled a follow-up interview to present ideas/feedback on their site/svc. During the second interview, the HM indicated that more detailed feedback was required for their svc post-login. Up to this point more than 2-3hrs of time has already been spent reviewing their site and writing up feedback. Agreed to send a follow-up email with more detailed feedback about the service. Haven't heard anything since sending the follow-up email from neither the recruiter nor hiring manager. Reviewing their site about a month after the fact, noticed that many of the ideas/feedback originally provided to them during the interviews, had been incorporated on their site. That should be a lesson to never/ever work on spec if you value your time, effort and intellectual property. Overall, a rather unprofessional experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

None of the questions were very challenging. The most challenging decision one will have to make is whether it will be worth their time/effort to review the site/svc and provide feedback with the hope of getting an in-person interview.
