      Interview

Disclaimer: This does not reflect Remote as a company since this is only a review of their recruitment process. I don't think Remote is at all transparent based on how my application went. Ironically, transparency is one of their core values Here's an outline of what happened - Had an initial interview with the recruiter - Had a panel interview with the immediate manager and a potential colleague - Had a panel interview with managers from different regions - Had an interview with the department director - Waited almost 1.5 months for the results - I was following up with them throughout the long wait, and they say that the "role is yet to be approved" - Got an offer via Docusign and negotiated the salary immediately - They granted the salary after 3-4 days - I asked a couple of questions about their benefits and also some arrangements about moving my start date - they were responsive about this and I was really excited to start with them - One day they answered my last question about their HMO and that's when I also decided to resign from my current company - 2 hours later they voided my offer telling me that they need to rescind because the team is suddenly going in a different direction - It was a vague reason for me so I probed and asked them about the sudden change in decision. I assumed they kinda got tired of waiting because I had so many questions (but this is how I always do things before entering a company) - They didn't reply to me anymore and I discovered they reopened the same role 2 days later Nonetheless, I think I dodged a bullet because I felt like there was a lot going on in the background, and only very little was communicated to me. Mind you that this is coming from someone who applied to this company thrice because I was amazed about how they advertised their culture. Take what you want from this review, but I hope Remote also practices transparency with their candidates. I was just pretty lucky that I haven't tendered my resignation before they rescinded the offer.

      Interview

AI interview is an interesting step, but I have enjoyed it nevertheless. All questions have been answered, although some words and sentences from my responses were lacking part of what I said, or misspelled a word completely. Still, Waiting for a feedback after the AI interview and looking forward to the rest of the process.

      Interview

The structure of the interview process was pretty confusing. In the job posting, it was supposed to be 1) Interview with a recruiter 2) interview with hiring managers 3) interview with a member of the executive team. Unfortunately, Remote didn’t quite do a great job with the interview process and I was truly disappointed. One of the values of this company that resonated with me is “transparency”. I really loved this about Remote. However, I feel like the interview process did not reflect this at all. I was not informed about my progress through the interview stages until they had already offered someone else the role. After my interview with the hiring managers, I reached out to follow up as I didn't receive an update for weeks. I was told they were experiencing delays and would provide an update. Weeks later, I got the standard email saying they had offered someone the role and closed the position. I was very confused by this seeing as I was expecting there’d be one more stage of interview with a member of the executive team. The whole process seemed very disorganized and candidates weren’t being carried along. How have they offered someone else the role and skipped an entire interview stage? Does that mean other candidates had been moved forward and I wasn’t told? It’s all so weird. Instead of stringing candidates along, why not let them know they didn’t make it to the next stage and offer feedback as to why? Remote claims to offer feedback to candidates that make it to the interview stage. It sucks that this was my experience as I really like the company. But, I wish the company the best still!
