      Principal Software Engineer Interview

      16 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Ciudad de Mexico
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Realtor.com (Ciudad de Mexico) in Jun 2022

      Interview

The instructions on their take home was a mess. It called for writing a common solution to a puzzle. But their junior engineer did not know you have to install node js packages to run typescript. He did not know how to fix a permissions error on his own computer. Instead he tried to put the blame on me. So a senior engineer stepped in to show him but it was too late by that point. It muddied the waters. They need to learn how to write clear precise instructions. Then they started making demands that were not listed in the instructions. They tried to change the instructions after the fact. HR needs to train them and verify any test they send out. It really made the company look bad. Anyways, a much much more reputable company that is 100 times bigger just hired me on the spot today after a code sample and conversation. These code tests have just become down right silly. I would refuse to do any of them unless you are starving. I only agreed because I was referred to this job through a connection. I have years of experience in the field. Code tests are for juniors.

      Principal Software Engineer Interview

      25 Jun 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Morgantown, WV
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Realtor.com (Morgantown, WV) in Jan 2021

      Interview

I would advice anyone considering employment here to look somewhere else. The process was quite frankly a joke in my opinion and a total waste of time. Was initially contacted by the recruiter following which was a chat with the hiring manager. Things seemed OK up to this point. I was given a take home exercise which I finished and emailed back. Second round was setup based on just the take home solution. Most interviewers in the panel seemed quite uninterested in the process and there was no depth to the interview. After this received an offer and now came the shock.....I had applied for a senior position and have 19 yrs experience BUT was offered an entry level position with a salary I used to get 17 years back. I really thought this was some kind of a joke and asked the recruiter if she was serious and if she realizes that this is beyond ridiculous? Anyways, I politely turned the offer down. Soon after I got an email from the recruiter withdrawing the job offer.

      Question 1

      Q. Take home exercise. Cannot mention here what the problem was for confidentiality reasons but was a very simple one.
