I got a call for an 'Engineering Manager' role in Rakuten Bangalore. My overall experience was really bad. Thanks to the interviewer. First of all he is an architect who was interviewing for a different role. I have worked with many architects in the past and some of them are currently reporting to me as well in my current role. But this person was really arrogant and he wanted to hear what he thinks. He doesn't care whether other's opinion are correct or not. There are multiple ways of solving a problem, but I guess this person in unidirectional. Not sure how his current team is working with him. I am sure he must be a pain to deal with. I don't feel bad because I was rejected, but I feel so sorry that Rakuten has such employees who doesn't know how to take interviews. Please ensure that you put right interviewer in place for respective roles. Hope it helps, so that you can take corrective action in future.

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Rakuten (Bengaluru) in May 2021
Interview
1. Frist Round Interview (1hr 15 mins)
a) my Project Handling.
b) technical Language (cpp / c] questions
After first round, my self called to Recruitment team, said that I am already having offer, I don't want to attend further interview then after few hours himself called and took details of offer. and he said will cross that number then I said OK to proceed further levels of interview.
2. 2nd Round from Japan online interview (1 hr)
a) About project details.
b) Checking the capability of engineer by deep analysis of the Career Path
c) How many company switching
d) Had discussion of how critical issues and performance improvements handled.
3. Technical Discussions ( from Japan + From India team] 2 members Panel - 30 ~45 mins
a) project details
b) details of each language used and what are the concepts used.
c) Technical Questions
d) Set of predefined questions.
4. 4th Round pure Technical hands of programming [ 2 ~ 2:30 mins ]
1) Given 2 real time problems from their project.
2) Asked to fix with 2hour 30mins.
3) 1st problem fixed within 30 minutes.
4) 2nd Question total different so took bit of long time , as their network is slow as solving in their remote server.
5. 5th Round HR called just asked what is CTC and what is ECTC.
Next 2 days Later its in discussion for finalizing. But No call at all..
Finally after 10 Days said could not proceed further due to budget issue.
strange already themselves said will cross the number which I have existing CTC.
I felt really bad with Rakuten that False promise. Really don't do such things its waste of time and mental stress also to the Participants.
At least should call and discuss if possible of negotiation. Unfortunately nothing did by Rakuten HR Team.
