Cost Control Allocation Industrial Placement Interview

      22 Jan 2025

      Declined offer

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at RWE

      Interview

**Extremely unprofessional experience: RWE rescinded the offer* I applied for and was successfully offered a placement at RWE after online assessments, two interviews (mostly behavioural/motivational, some technical) and positive feedback from the Cost Allocation team. However, this entire process ended in complete disappointment due to the company's utter lack of professionalism. After having received an offer by the Cost Allocation team, I was contacted by HR a few days later to be informed that RWE had decided to rescind it due to "business decisions." The phone call I received to inform me of the decision was cold and dismissive, filled with platitudes like, "It must be challenging" and "I don’t want to waste your time," without any real acknowledgment of the time and energy already lost. HR acknowledged that I was the best candidate, that I "wowed" the team. Yet, none of this mattered. Time and effort were wasted on their end and mine. I feel deeply sorry for the Cost Allocation team, who had to waste time preparing questions and case studies for me and other interviewers, only to be told by HR that the role would not longer be available. The people on the Cost Allocation team were lovely and I was genuinely excited to work with them -- wishing them the best. I am just baffled by the unprofessionalism of HR/management's decision to rescind the role at such a late stage. What was the point of posting the job in the first place? Why put candidates through such a lengthy and detailed process if you lack the foresight to determine whether the role is sustainable? This experience speaks to a serious lack of organisation and consideration for candidates' time and energy. I strongly advise anyone considering an opportunity with RWE to proceed with extreme caution. Even if you receive an offer, it seems that offers here are not guarantees but empty promises subject to arbitrary reversal. This was an incredibly disheartening and frustrating experience, and I hope this review serves as a warning to others who might fall into the same trap. RWE needs to take a hard look at its hiring practices and show more respect to the candidates who invest so much in the process.
