Gathering Marketing Ideas: During a panel interview, they picked my brain. The entire time it wasn't even an interview, but as though they had hired me to be a consultant. They were taking extensive notes. It was more probing for free marketing ideas than an interview. Unethical Spec Assignment: I was asked to take it a step further and do a spec assignment to essentially write down all of my ideas. They basically took my ideas. Right as I turned it in the very next day they claimed they moved on with another candidate. The Owner Was Mean: This company is shady. They do not seem to know what they're doing and they did not know their own brand voice. Luckily, I put together a marketing package as per the assignment to help them identify brand voice. They did not end up hiring me. But they pay was very low and I was moving further along with another company that paid way more. The entire time during the interview, the owner looked very unhappy. She had her arms crossed in front of her. The way she was talking along with her body language showed signs of a demanding, negative work culture. They seemed to be using me for free marketing ideas since I had extensive senior experience.
