      Sales Development Representative Interview

      24 Aug 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Proxyclick (New York, NY) in Aug 2020

      Interview

In my entire career of close to 7 years, I’ve given numerous interviews and of course been rejected on multiple occasions. Yet this is the first time ever that I’m writing a review about one. I first had a round with the HR which went nicely and I was chosen for a second round which was blocked on my calendar. In the meanwhile I was given an assignment by the Sales Development Manager who was going to interview me next. Unlike other organisations that ask you to pick up a fictitious company or one of your choosing, this one was about Proxyclick itself. Which is fine too cause that ways you get to learn more about their functions but it was so excruciatingly long and extensive that it felt like I’m already a part of their sales team who needs to know so much about the company and what I’m selling. It also didn’t just have 1 task but was divided into 4 different tasks you’re supposed to prep for. Anyone would want to outperform themselves, so I spent my entire weekend doing the necessary research and putting in the work. Just hours before the next round, they cancelled my already scheduled interview and sent an email stating that the assignment didn’t meet the standards to continue forward. 1. I was never told that the assignment was a factor in determining whether the next round would take place or not. I was rather told it would be discussed on that call where there would also be a mock discovery call based on this assignment, which again I prepped thoroughly for. 2. It sure feels like free labour because of the mount of effort and work that was put in. The least they could have done was share some sort of feedback or at least have the decency to get on that already scheduled call to share what went wrong or their decision. Especially cause it was just in a few hours. 3. I’m sure every organisation has a process in place to choose the best candidates but making a candidate do such long assignments on Proxyclick itself and cancelling their interview on the same day based on that so callously is simply unprofessional and harrowing. 4. On a side note, this was for an SDR role where they expect you to have 1-2 years of SDR experience. I’m someone who has 3+ years of experience both as an SDR and Account Executive.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Research 10 companies you would target based on what you know about Proxyclick. Keep Covid in mind. Research buyer personas in these companies. Write cold emails to 3 of these introducing Proxyclick. Prepare for a mock discovery call.

First, many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on your experience, and on behalf of the team I'd like to express our regret that you did not have the kind of candidate experience we strive towards. After looking into this situation, there are many areas we can improve in future regarding coordination and communication. We did reach out to you directly to follow up, but understand you were not available to discuss further. I would like to clarify that the exercise is not used other than as an assessment for recruiting, and I thank you for putting in the preparation time. In these times, it is more important than ever that our candidates receive a professional and sensitive experience, which clearly did not happen here. We will learn from your experience. Again, would be happy to discuss individually and wish you the best in your future endeavors. Kind regards, Krystall Fierens-Lee Chief People Experience Officer
