      Registered Nurse Interview

      17 Mar 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Spokane, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Providence (Spokane, WA) in Dec 2015

      Interview

I have interviewed at least 20 times over the past 3 years for a variety of different positions with Providence. Most of the positions, I am over qualified for and others would require me to make a specialty change which I am perfectly capable of doing. I have a 29 year nursing history with most of it ICU and 18 years in Cardiac Cath Lab. I can no longer work in Cath Lab because of physical issues so was looking for something less physically strenuous. I am an excellent nurse with a good head and have an exemplary background with tons of experience. I recently achieved my BSN and was on the President's list for the entire time. Each and every interview process with Providence has left me feeling totally inadequate and unworthy and OLD. Most recently, I interviewed for a position as an employee health nurse which I thought would have been a perfect fit and I am located in the little rural town where the position was. I was notified for this position by a recruiter so I did the initial phone interview. After the "interview" if that is what you call it, I asked if I should go into the system and officially apply, the interviewer told me "no, that's alright, we'll notify you if we need you to go forward". So I had my official answer right then and there. Fortunately, another recruiter for another company called me the next day and was totally excited with my years of experience. The interview process was "tell me about yourself, and what do you think are your strengths, etc." Not the stupid canned questions from the Providence interview that really don't bring out the best in the interviewee but only serve to degrade and humiliate you. I have talked to multiple people in the area about Providence and how it is to work for them. They don't have the best reputation.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Q: You're almost 59 years old, how much longer do you think you are going to work? (This was asked at an interview a couple of years ago when I was first moving up to this area, not on the most recent interview.)

      Question 2

Q: What do you see yourself doing in regard to your career in five years? (Such a totally irrelevant question).
