I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Prosys Computing (Cardiff, Wales) in May 2022
Interview
Interview process involved no technical tests which was the first sign of something amiss. Talked with two members of the team for half an hour and again, no real technical questions just generic interview ones, pretty strange for a developer interview. Staff shortages were mentioned and when I asked about any agile/scrum methodologies the team uses, I was met with no knowledge of that way of working; yet more red flags.
Was offered the job the same day and gladly accepted despite the warning signs. I was then called to confirm details, I mentioned I had been living with friends but had new place lined up and would be moving sooner than intended if I was given an offer. I was so happy and relieved to get my first development role after months of effort.
I accepted the job formally, sent my references over and moved house in the space of a week to a more suitable location (FTTP connection and better transport links to Cardiff). I sent my new address when asked and received an out of office automatic response, I heard nothing that day.
The next day I was told they were worried in regards to GDPR and my living situation. I assured him that I paid my friend for a bedroom and an office at my previous place and my new place was a large private room.
By the end of the day, the job offer had been withdrawn and I was informed that the decision was irreversible. According to ACAS, this could be unlawful and I will be pursuing this as I'm now out of pocket as a direct result of this company.
