      Creative Strategist Interview

      27 Mar 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Primer

      Interview

The interview process starts with your average phone screen, then you meet two more people (someone from HR and a Department Manager of sort) who were both kind but very cagey about salary expectations and would not allude to any salary range. If you are selected to advance, will assign you a 'take-home assignment' to evaluate your creative strategy skillset. This assignment is no easy feat. you will conduct a comprehensive demographic study, design a full landing page, write multiple copy variations, and in my case - design a full set of creative. After I got back to them with the assignment, I was then scheduled to meet with the team lead I would work with. Both my interviews went very well and they said they would be in touch soon after - but it was crickets. No one ever got back to me or acknowledged the work I completed. After over 2-3 weeks of your standard 'follow-up email' timeline with no responses or feedback - I saw the job post go back up. At this point, I emailed everyone individually a couple of times and I finally heard back their HR department that they would no longer be 'moving forward with my application' I left this whole process feeling taken advantage of and will no longer be doing any sort of creative tests until a valid job offer is on the line. If you are thinking of applying here - let this be a cautionary tale.

      Interview

I found the job posting on LinkedIn which ended up being a false description of the position as a contract role but it was full-time employee (I preferred this). The first call was a screening with straightforward questions. The issue is what I had after this call. Even though they knew I had a current full-time job, I was sent an extensive assignment with less than 48 hours to complete. The project took at me over 3 hours, they asked for a persona write-up, buyer decision questions, a landing page mockup, facebook ad mockups, and a rationale write-ups for each. After submitting the assignment I was quickly asked to schedule another interview with them the following week. Before committing more time to the role I requested a projected salary range for the position. They refused to provide this information, stating it would come later in the interview process but asked for my salary expectations. I provided my range and I never heard a response back. I proceeded to remove myself from candidacy. Given the assignment very early on was a red flag, it seemed like they were looking for free work on a quick turnaround, and not providing salary expectations was also very suspicious.
