I applied online. I interviewed at Prime Alliance Bank (Woods Cross, UT) in Aug 2023
Interview
Video interview. Started with an overview of the bank and it’s history. A little bit about the role but I still left feeling I wasn’t really clear what the daily ins and outs would be. Moved into questions about me. Said he understood this would be different for me coming from mortgage (my background is commercial lending) and asked about me being a job jumper in that I only stay with companies 1-2 years. My resume shows 4 years with one of my prior companies with a small break in that time dure to lay off when I worked for a competitor before being asked to come back, three with my next, and yes… a year an a half with my most recent employment. With not being clear on my work history or background I felt like he hadn’t really read my resume. Additionally he made it very clear that since ‘it’s a recession’ he’s getting ten qualified resumes every day. I’m not sure what that was suppose to convey but between that and not being clear on my background I felt like if I was such a weak candidate in his eyes why were we taking the time to talk? The largest issue however and what has led me to email stating I will ot be moving forward in the process, even we’re I to be chosen, is the way the ‘tell me what you do outside work’ question was handled. He asked, I told him a bit about the things I enjoy and what matters to me. He chuckled and stated that there are things he legally can not ask because he would get in trouble with HR. He stated that the question tells you a lot about people and it’s interesting to see how they answer. I’m not sure what he was digging for that he couldn’t legally ask me in a straight forward way, however it’s deeply was concerning that he share this was his intent.
