A brief phone call asking about experience and interests. Was then invited to an interview at the Waterloo base. Interview was down for 4:30pm but I wasn’t seen until gone 5:30pm. I was apologised to, which is fine but still unacceptable, and very unprofessional to be running that late. The waiting area was full of many candidates. After nearly an hour of travel, and hour of waiting, the informal interview lasted less than 5 minutes. I was optimistic, and was excited to get through to a second interview (again, which is weird, and made me wonder what the hell this place was about) the owner of the company interviewed me anyway, and I specifically asked if there is a fixed annual salary, and he said YES plus commission. This is a LIE! It is 100% commission. I was told I’d be attending events, and was lead to believe I was involved in marketing ideas and creations, when in reality, you are a door-to-door sales person, that talk exaggerations and lies to “potential” customers. This is how interview part two goes by the way.. you have to shadow a current employee (which are all very new still and young - a teenager- and very inexperienced in a work life) and follow them around knocking on doors being pests to people, and you have to take notes and create a plan to sell something. You have to do it the way a business plan should be but you are not shown or given detail of how they want this to be done. You are informed you will be there from 11:30am-3pm, when in actual fact, they want you to be there 11:30am-8:30pm. You have to get on a train to a different part of the city (yes, you pay your own fair. So yes, you are basically paying someone to interview you) they do not inform you of this, so you’re screwed if you don’t have the spare dosh. You’re quizzed on every aspect of your life and feel like you’re being interrogated, and no disrespect to the employees, but if you are quite intellectual, then this definitely isn’t a job for you. It’s a job for people with no drive or brain cells. Just a desire to talk to people. After realising they wanted me to pretty much do a days work for them, for free, and me paying, and being informed once I’m there, that I will be there until late evening, I left. The owner is a lovely man, but the company seems to be based on dream sellers and lies. If you want progress in life, in your career, then this is definitely not for you. Even if they tell you this is a place of progress. How can you progress from knocking on people’s doors??? None of the factual information is advertised in the application, it’s very misleading. I personally thought no I wasted a lot of time and travel money. I am fuming. As I said, I left at 3pm. They were taking the absolute Michael, so I don’t know what was to happen after. I was told I would be taken back to the Waterloo office, have a meeting with the owner again, and be quizzed like an exam. Whether or not this was the real process, god knows!! So to summarise, a company of lies and fake dreams and I do NOT recommend it!!!!
