The interview process was very smooth. The interviewers were approachable and easy to talk to. There were 4 rounds in total, with one system design technical question. I got a chance to talk with my engineering manager
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Plum (London, England) in May 2026
Interview
Screen > Hiring Manager > Case study > Culture
Pretty straight forward process, but through the process the role title changed multiple times, ultimately the feedback at the end was the role is paused/we're not hiring for the role you've interviewed for. Speed of process was quite slow, with long gaps between completing a stage and getting any feedback.
From all the processes and interviews recently, thuis was the worst case study. Very broad and lacking specificity - was suggested as four hours, later said its probably more, realistically was close to 2 full days. Required a lot of research in the company, guessing at how internal processes might work, process mapping and providing hypothetical suggestions... Then a market research piece on trends in both payments and fincrime, THEN a product review to include creating prototypes and roadmaps.
Ultimately not a great candidate experience - and given the role was now paused/not hiring for this felt more like an expeditious fishing trip to try and get free ideas and insights.
PItched a 'very competitive' base salary that wouldn't be discussed until I did we got to the case round, just before the case found it it was significantly below market (25%-30%!) given experience and ownership. I've personally hired Senior PM's in their banding for a Director.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How do you see the payments & fraud space evolving over the next 3–5 years in the UK
and EU? Based on that, how would you position Plum to scale?

Interview
The interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with an HR call where the recruiter shared a lot of information about the role and showed genuine interest in my background and experience. We quickly scheduled the next interview with one of the engineering leaders.
The second conversation was very insightful, and the interviewer came across as highly knowledgeable. The technical interview was also engaging although a bit lengthy, the engineers were friendly, supportive, and great to interact with throughout the process.
