      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Photoroom

      Interview

It started great and I really liked the UX research team but the process was so long. I did 8 interviews and Photoroom flew me to Paris for some of them. 4 of the interviews were "culture" interviews and people from different departments asked me all the same questions again and again. I am really not sure if this was some kind of test or if the hiring team was not talking to each other about which questions they would ask. There was also an element of "stress test". They asked about my previous managers from years ago, what's their full name, what will happen if they call the ex-manager right now. I am in good relationships with all my previous managers but this questioning felt so off. One of the interviewers even unofficially apologized to me for this after the interview was over. She explained that this is what they were instructed to do as a part of the process. In the last onsite interview, they didn't give me time to ask my questions to the team. When the interview was over, they offered to stay longer to ask question, but I explained I couldn't because it was already time to leave for the airport. Photoroom scheduled all interview slots and the flights for me, so I had no choice to have more time between the interviews and the flight. The feedback they gave me when rejecting me mentioned they wanted me to ask them more questions. By the end of the hiring process I met around 30 people, had a conversation with each, learned their extensive wiki about the company by heart and explored all the features in the product. They also gave me positive feedback on being calm in the interviews, I don't know why. I was stressed the whole time in onsite interviews because my hometown was bombed that morning, and the recruiter guiding me through the day knew about it. To be fair, most people were nice to me, but the whole hiring process seems like a mess. I regret investing so much time into it.
