Entry Level Sales Support Representative Interview

      21 Nov 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Northbrook, IL
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Paylocity (Northbrook, IL) in Nov 2013

      Interview

I found the position on LinkedIn, applied through their website, and got a call the next day. I spoke with the HR rep and she first talked about herself and how she joined Paylocity and then talked about the company itself. She then went into the position I applied for, she told me that the position requires 100-150 cold calls a day. It was almost like she was putting down the position saying things like, "Some people can't handle this job," "At times can be boring and discouraging" and I was asked multiple times if I would be up for this job. This first phone call was very off putting. Then, she immediately set up another phone interview with the manager for the position I applied for. This phone call was more interview like where I was asked about my experience, education, and I had opportunities to ask about the job. At the end of this phone call, the manager immediately set up an in-person interview with me. I went into the office for the interview, and all I have to say it gave me a really odd vibe. Everyone was really nice and polite, but something wasn't right for me. After I interviewed with 3 of the managers, they had me shadow one of the employees in the Sales Support Representative position. To me it seemed as though this position was a telemarketer position, but the managers tried to explain to me how it wasn't. At the end of my interview, I was offered the position and to start in less than 2 weeks. To me, everything moved so fast and it was more like they were just trying to find people to fill the position in a rush. They told me that by the first of January they needed hire 15 Sales Support Representatives; I interviewed near the end of November. Overall, the position was not for me. However, it really seemed as though the position does have room for growth and a lot of opportunities to eventually move up in the company. They told me they provide training and shadowing, while in this position, so you can learn and see what position you may want to move up to. You do have to be willing to sit in a very, very small cubicle and make 100-150 cold calls a day for at least a year before you are considered for a higher position.

      Question 1

I was asked multiple times if I could handle this position because they knew it can get really boring and discouraging. This was really off putting to me, it seems as though everyone I talked to put down the job and made it unappealing.
