So I filled out an application online and kinda forgot about it. 2-3 weeks later I get a call from a manager and we schedule an interview on Monday. I arrived at Payless and then find out I would be interviewing with another girl (this was my first interview and it wasn't very nerve-wrecking). I am 18 and have had no previous job experience. The interview was relatively easy, they asked me 5-6 questions such as talk about a time you've been successful/ unsuccessful etc. I have a lot of volunteer experience so I talked about that and my academics. After the interview, we did a roleplay, I found this part super easy because I'm very familiar with Payless. Make sure you suggest add ons! I suggested the socks (on sale), a purse (1/2 off with shoes), and a scarf. I also talked about the flip flops on sale. I think the manager was impressed because I did my research. After the roleplay, the manager says I would get a call back on Wednesday for another interview with the district manager. The next Tuesday, I get a call from the manager to have another interview. I arrive at the second Payless and find out I would be interviewing with 2 more girls. This made me super nervous because they had years of experience over me. The interview lasted an hour long and they asked essentially the same questions but more in depth. At the end, the manager said to pick out 2 items and sell it to the group. I picked out a pair of flats & purse from the Christian Soriano line. I knew a lot about his line and the manager was super impressed. (She said I did the best job selling the shoe). Afterwards, she talked for 15 minutes about our duties and about the company. At the end, she said one of us would get a call on Wednesday and that would mean we got the job. I waited on Wednesday, no call, I assumed I didn't get the job. Then, on Friday, I get a call from the manager apologizing for calling late but I had gotten the job! I was super happy and now I just have to schedule a drug test. I was so surprised I got the job because I had no retail experience BUT i'm sure they liked me because I knew the shoes. Make sure you do your research on the shoes, collaborations, and the company.
