      Marketing Specialist Interview

      1 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Oklahoma City, OK
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Paycom (Oklahoma City, OK) in Sept 2019

      Interview

The in-person interview soured my view of the company, or at least the branch I was interviewing for. The interviewer seemed inexperienced, which made sense as their was an older person who was also present during the interview who only spoke to correct or rephrase things that the main interviewer said. Anyways, the interview did not align with the supposed company values that they stated. The main interviewer had a knack for bringing something up, just to knock it down. For example, she brought up my GPA (normal thing during an entry level interview), and she asked why it was as high as it was. I explained why I put effort into getting a high GPA, and she immediately called it a waste of time. This caught me off guard, but I continued talking, but the interviewer kept repeatedly circling back to her opinions on GPA to the point where it felt like she was trying to knock me down. It got annoying and taxing, and it felt like it was based off some kind of insecurity that she had. Regardless, she lacked knowledge about the position, was easily startled by questions regarding it and contradicted a few things on the initial job posting. It felt very amateurish and left me with a negative impression of the company.

We’re disappointed to hear of your experience with a member of Paycom’s marketing department. This is not the norm when interviewing at Paycom and we’re sorry you left feeling knocked down. We would like to speak with you further about your experience. If you feel comfortable please reach out to our corporate recruiting supervisor, Jason Canning, at Jason.Canning@paycomonline.com.

      Interview

They go to a lot of work to screen employees, but it's not too cumbersome. You have a call with a recruiter, then you fill out the job application if you haven't already. If you clear that then you have an in-person interview. Sometimes you'll have a team interview and an interview with the department leader.

      Question 1

      Interview

First there was a phone interview with the recruiter. Then an in-person interview with a manager I would report to. Then I needed to do a 6-page editing test. The last step was panel interview with more people from the department.
