Illegal hiring practices. I live in a state where pay transparency is required by law, particularly when a candidate asks for the range. This law applies to where the candidate lives, not just where the company is located. Not only was the range not on the job description, but when I asked the recruiter up front I was told that because the title is broad “consultant” it covers from entry to senior level. Ok so what is the range for someone at my level? I was forced to give a number, which again is illegal. They also have a blanket policy against freelance work, and noncompetes are illegal in my state too. Concerning. I did get the right wing vibe other reviewers have mentioned. Additionally I was interviewed by the COO a week after his wife gave birth. This seemed not only extremely unnecessary for him to be interviewing a consultant, but a concern for work life balance. Why is he not taking more paternity leave? That’s crazy! I get the feeling I didn’t move forward because I said I was caregiving my toddler (she’d go to daycare when the job started). But this place sounds so toxic I wouldn’t have continued. They have a very flat structure with no management, which I suspect is why they have C-level employees interviewing consultants. They require you to do a case study, which took me hours of work for an interview.
