      Portfolio Associate Interview

      20 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at PIMCO

      Interview

The interview process was LONG. Two months minimum. The waiting is torturous, and the HR isn't very responsive. The people I interviewed with were awesome though; very informative and friendly. It felt like they hadn't planned out the interview process well. I spoke to 5 people, including the HR. And the conversation was similar with all 5. They dragged out the process for longer than it had to be definitely. Considering my conversations with everyone, sounds like a half an hour in a conference room with all of them together would have saved them and me a lot of time. They provided very positive feedback throughout the process, and then concluded that while the response for my interviews was positive, they would not be moving forward as they had a very high number of qualified candidates (their prerogative, no judgments). The bitter aftertaste is only because of them having dragged it out due to their lack of planning.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Technical: what is bond duration, convexity, what happens when 1% of price increases, etc. Fit: how did you react when you did something wrong at work earlier, in what environment do you think you thrive in.

      Interview

The first stage of the PIMCO interview process is typically a short HireVue video interview lasting about 10 minutes. It includes three to five pre-recorded questions that assess your communication skills, professionalism, and cultural fit. The questions are usually behavioral and motivational—for example, “Why PIMCO?”, “Tell us about yourself,” or “Describe a time you worked in a team.” You’re given around 30 seconds to prepare and 2–3 minutes to respond to each question. There’s no live interviewer; your answers are recorded and reviewed later by recruiters or hiring managers. This stage helps PIMCO identify candidates who demonstrate strong communication, analytical thinking, and alignment with its core values of Collaboration, Openness, Responsibility, and Excellence before advancing them to the next round.
