      Sales Manager Interview

      21 Mar 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at OutboundEngine (Austin, TX) in Jul 2015

      Interview

Never in my life did I imagine a company could be filled by the incredible combination of poorly educated, rude, ignorant, classless and unprofessional people. Let me add delusional into the mix too. As a sales professional, with years of experience cultivating relationships with clients in the tech industry (both domestic and international) I could not believe the level of stupidity and ignorance coming from the mouths of the interviewing team. Completely lacking in value, substance and effectiveness. No discussion of the products, the customers they are sold to, or what makes the company great. The focus of the conversation was the founder/owner/sociopath and how great he is. Strong cult of personality. From the descriptions given of him by his adoring management team, it seems as if he uses his position to verbally abuse others and inflate his Trump like ego. The interviewer was classless. She insulted employees, made several references to people being lazy who couldn't cut it there(more like smart) and discussed another employee's salary in the open during the group interview process. The ignorant children running this company appear to have taken on the personality of their god and essentially believe everything he says. I did research and it appears that the founder and his management team essentially go from start up to start up and run whatever sham business is needed to be run while they wait for investor funds to grow through each round of funding and then abandon ship when they are able to line their pockets. This business certainly doesn't exist to provide value to anything other than the bank account of the con men running the place. Oh yeah back to the interview. So We walk in and are subjected to a loud, crowded area with about 5 long desks and phones crammed together with people shouting at the "customers" they are randomly harassing about the lame and shallow "product" package which consists of poorly written emails and crap social media automation..probably just a few templates on Hootsuite set up to repeat over and over. I was asked to come back the second day, but I told them I had moved on. I would never, ever want to subject myself or anyone I manage to such deplorable, aggressive, soul sucking, abusive working conditions. Here is some advice to the "sales managers". You guys have no idea what you are doing. It isn't sales. It's harassment. True sales is the art of listening, understanding, knowing what questions to ask to qualify your prospects, and using product expertise and knowledge to provide the appropriate solution for their needs. This takes careful planning, intelligent prospecting, and a deep understanding of why people WANT to buy things. Telemarketing is not sales, but we know that doesn't really matter, because you could be selling horse Sh1t to dead people and still approach your business the same way.
