Overall it was very informal. I applied online and heard back the next day, I had a brief interview (really just confirming my experience level and my education) with the hiring manager. I mentioned I was relocating to the area but would be in town that week to meet if they were interested in following up for the position. They said they would pass the information on so we could try to get me in to their office that week for an interview and would give me a call back confirming in the next few days. 4 days pass and it is now Friday afternoon she gives me a call about coming in that day to interview. This is my last day visiting that location and I was over an hour an a half away, as I had made plans with family since I had no confirmation. I thought about it and by the time I could get there and look presentable would be about 5 pm so I informed them I would be available the next week for a video or phone interview. I was told from the manager I would be having a phone interview the following week, the director of the department ended up just calling my phone which was fine but unexpected. I really didn't get asked too many questions. They raved on my portfolio and my previous work and told me I was "at the top" of they list of 80+ applicants. They merely wanted me to take a test to show how I work and my creative strategy. They didn't send the test for over a week after that phone call. I had called and left a voicemail because I was expecting it almost immediately after the interview was over. I completed my test in 2 days and sent several files in a zip file. I sent a follow up email a week after that, since I never had a confirmation that they received my files. I waited another week after no word before calling. I emailed the hiring manager too. I finally called the hiring manager after over 2 weeks passed since I submitted my test. She said they had one open position remaining but I should have received a confirmation email. I emailed the department head again and 2 days later I received a generic denial email from employment. I had a pretty strong feeling I was not getting an offer but they really did have me going for a while.
