I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Opal Aged Care (Warrnambool) in May 2025
Interview
The interview itself was fine, very easy to answer, felt comfortable. Unfortutely it was a huge waste of time. My epmployment agency marketed me to various places including Opal and they had a position being advertised internally. The person my consultant spoke to was made aware I had a physical limitation (nothing to prevent me from doing administrative work, no accomodations required), loved my resume and booked me in for an interview. I turned up to be interviewed by the maager who was not who my consultant spoke with. Interview was still fine, it was described as a "cruzy" role. No accomodations needed to be made for me in any way, he said he liked my resume/skills/experience as well. When they finally called back, the original woman the consultant spoke with informed me I had missed out, not because of my skills but because I wouldn't pass their health check! This was admin, not pca, lifestyle, cleaner, cook etc where you are on your feet all day. The fact that this woman was told up front about my limitation, then the manager was informed during the interview, that I had all the experience I needed for their quiet part time weekend position and there was ZERO information or hesitation in regards to any kind of health check! A role where there is no heavy lifting, you are basically sitting at the front greeting people, doing generic admin jobs, answering the phone. I have worked in aged care, I have worked in law, I have worked in community transport. Never have they ever needed a health check in relation to a bad hip, or questioned my ability to do the job based on that. I can clear a police check, stat dec, working with childrens check, immunisation status etc. My consultant and collegue were just as p*ssed as I was about this whole farce. They could have saved me the time and energy and just said no at the beginning.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Opal Aged Care (Newcastle) in Oct 2023
Interview
Interview process was very easy and people communicated well. The questions were easily understood and the staff were very engaging in the process. Overall good experience with lovely people but the job just wasn’t for me.
