I applied in-person. I interviewed at Ontario Northland (North Bay, ON) in Apr 2026
Interview
Met with panel of three, one HR, one leadership and a manager.
The first thing that caught me off guard was that the people were so far away I almost laughed, we could have played football in the room. They didn't even approach to shake my hand or acknowledge me.
The second thing was that the interview lasted 20 minutes. Started with a general question and asked a couple STAR behavioural. Then they are like, well we are done! I'm like... okay can I tell you more about myself since we just started? This is a $100,000 job, not some Starbucks gig.
Third, I spent probably 40 hours, a whole week carefully preparing for the interview. I knew every in and out of the job like a pro. I was thrown some skill testing questions that were so outside my skill level and job description I felt like a total idiot and blumbered them. I haven't felt that dumb since not studying for a 7th grade math test. This felt very unfair as it was outside the role.
Finally it was obvious from what they said someone internally was already covering the role, which is probably why the interview was cut short and they joked about me being the last finally on Friday afternoon.
The thing that hurt the most is HR, or any of the panel replied to my email thanking them and asking when I might hear back the following Monday. 2-3 weeks later HR replied to my email with an automated response decline.
This was by far the worst interview and process I have ever been apart of. I enjoy interviews and almost always get hired first round. Also, read my question they asked me, I bet you can't even answer it...
I applied online. I interviewed at Ontario Northland in Feb 2025
Interview
It was only one interview with 3 people for almost an hour. They asked all behavioral questions regarding my experiences and how would I tackle certain scenarios. There were no technical questions for the skills included in the job description.
