      Sales Interview

      11 Nov 2014
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at OnDeck (New York, NY) in May 2014

      Interview

The interview process with OnDeck was well organized and welcoming, but the best part was meeting with everyone. From the front end, Lidia reached out to me and was able to give me great insight into the company and role, but what really sold me was her passion for OnDeck. She was able to set me up with a few interviewers/Sales Managers and was very seamless. Sales Managers were looking for specific qualities and of course culture fit, which is something I can appreciate because a great culture is hard to find and they seemed like this was something they strive for day in and day out. Follow up was right within timeline of decision, glad to be a part and have the opportunity to interview!

      Interview

Created a Glassdoor account just so I could share my experience about OnDeck. Was initially interviewing for an Analyst role within the company. Spent a bit of time learning about the company and providing an analysis of the organization to those whom I would be meeting with; including a strategic positioning piece and a competitive market analysis. Enjoyed the initial conversations with said team members during the in person interviews. This included three rounds of in-person interviews with two people in the room at once. Received an email later that week from one of the individuals in recruiting who said that he would like to connect on the phones. Without any cause or justification, he said that they would like to bring me in to interview for a sales role. Upon pressing him to understand the "why" - he deflected entirely. I should've known right then and there to take my time else where. But, when you are needing an opportunity -- you take them as they come. So, I spend time going back to the drawing boards to figure out how I would potentially sell their product (predatory loans to small-medium sized business owners). I spend yet another afternoon in their office speaking to five different individuals. Was shocked that one of the managers for the sales floor said that she believed in coddling her sales reps. A true sheep trying to wear wolves clothing. But to each their own. Now, let's do a quick economic break down here so I can tell you my frustration with this organization: Parking (which OnDeck will not provide repayment for) - $40 Lost Wages from 5 Hours of In-Person Interviews - $200 Time Spent Studying and Preparing - Will say $25 an hour, so $75. So the total investment in this organization from my end was in the ball park of$305. That's not a small investment. But my true issue with the organization is not the financial piece. It was never hearing back. Yes, you are reading that correctly. Not a call from HR. Not an email. Not even some sort of automated response to indicate that they were moving in a different direction. Again, never have I spent the time to sit down and write a review of an organization on Glassdoor -- but OnDeck, the lack of professionalism was painful. I recognize that HR gets a bad wrap for things that are often times out of their control, but this time there is no blame to be placed elsewhere.

Many mini interviews which we went through before getting a final decision . Overall i think the process was fair and traditional. I would advise they make it shorter and more clear.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at OnDeck (Denver, CO) in Nov 2015

      Interview

My husband and I were referrals and we had a joint interview. It was very relaxed, almost too relaxed. We didn't understand why but after working there I understood why the interview was so relaxed. Because no one wanted the sales job we had applied for.
