      Marketing Interview

      20 Aug 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New Orleans, LA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Olympus Marketing (New Orleans, LA) in Aug 2015

      Interview

VAGUE - the job postings were very vague so when the receptionist called to invite me for an interview I was interested. The first red flag was when I asked her what jobs they were hiring for and she kind of stumbled and said all levels administrative to management. I asked her for any specifics and she said it would be covered in the first interview. Come to the day of my first "interview". I joined a group of five people waiting in the lobby and when I was called back was asked three questions and told it was an initial screen for opportunities available. The gentleman was very nice but again very vague. He talked about their client and mentioned handling promotions but no details. Still I was excited to get a callback and was told to prepare for a 2-3 hour second interview, but again no details. The second interview ended up being an informal one-on-one with another candidate and a current employee. Not only did they shuffle us out in the heat, they kept us walking down the street while talking about the large amounts of money you can make if you are really good at this job. My first question was what exactly are you hiring for and the summary was basically a sales/pusher job, he described the initial 2-3 months as going out and offering free phones and then began to brag about his $1200 commission off a nursing home last week. To call this a marketing job is inaccurate. This is sales, promotion based sales. The job would be a good opportunity for an entry level person with no experience but the process upset me. As a seasoned and experienced person I was looking for a legit opportunity to get into marketing and the vagueness of the listing didn't deter me, but the interview process should have.
