      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Norconsult (Oslo) in Aug 2020

      Interview

So I was in a interview process at Norconsult's IT department called NOIS. It was for an IT position focused on data science and AI which seemed really interesting and right up in my field of interest. I applied and was called for an interview with hiring manager. Did the first interview and I got good impression of them as a company and as a team. Hence the reasoning for me proceeding with them. So I got into the 2nd round where I had to do a case which lasted for 10 days. It was a good challenge being of data science / machine learning nature. I spent 4 of those days not sleeping (I was hell bent on nailing it as I really wanted to work for Norconsult). After the case delivery deadline I was called in for 2nd round of talk/interview with the hiring manager and the rest of the team. The feedback I got of the case performance was positive. The main comments I remember from the hiring manager himself was "It is good" and "It was one of the best defended case I've seen so far". So I naturally got my hopes up. At the end of said talk I asked when I was expected to get their final feedback, i.e. the decision me getting an offer or not. To which they replied "pretty soon". Everything seemed normal from my part up until this point. I called the hiring manager the following week to check if they've landed on a "final verdict" regarding me getting an offer. And I was told that I'll get an offer, to quote the hiring manager and translate his quote directly from Norwegian: "I can tell you here and now that you'll get the offer.". The hiring manager told me to have patience as the HR process to formalize the contract will take 1-2 weeks. I waited up to 2 weeks while being really excited ( I was laid off the past 6 months due to covid damages from my previous employer, hence the extra excitement. I also spent the past 6 months taking courses in data science). But I still didn't receive the contract. I tried calling the hiring manger, to check if everything was ok, but he didn't pick up. The following week I texted him to notify him regarding the missing contract, but no reply. Another week passed after not hearing anything from Norconsult, I contacted HR to check if they know anything about the process. Turns out they didn't even know anything regarding me being in the hiring process, I wasn't even in their system. My friends and family came up with excuses for the hiring manager like he must be extremely busy or that something must've happened to him etc, as no one could imagine that a renowned company such as Norconsult would behave this unprofessionally. I told the HR to check with the hiring manager if he has any feedback regarding the contract formalization process. They told me the following day that he will contact me. So now the HR at least know about the process, and we're 1 month since hiring manager promised me that I'll get the offer. I'm patiently waiting for another 2-3 weeks and then re-checking with the HR to see if they have anything new for me, but they didn't so I asked if they could check with the hiring manager. They replied through text the following day quoting the hiring manager "that the plan is to send me the contract". Since then I havn't heard from Norconsult, HR nor the hiring manager at all. For info: My hopes for getting a proper feedback and communication line was faded away at this point and I stopped caring and started new application process at other companies. but I wasted up to two months of career progress by waiting for Norconsult to reply. Thats when I realized I actually got ghosted by a company proclaimed to be "One of Norway's most attractive work places". I deem it really unfair by them to treat me this unprofessionally and straight up disrespectful. This happened two years ago and I should've reported this to the union of engineers and members with technical education background, but I was back then too focused on getting employed within IT and focused on getting of my laid-off state to do anything with it. In hindsight I should've reported this case to the union and that is my only regret. I hope that this review will make justice on behalf of me, but also future potential candidates. On the last note, I'd like to clarify that it perfectly fine to reject candidates for whatever reason, but actually promising an offer, which is legally binding btw, only to ghost me is highly disrespectful, lacking of professionality and illegal. The right thing of their part is to convey to me why they couldn't hire me regardless of what the reason was, In order to have the moral and professional high ground.
