      Backend Software Engineer Interview

      23 Apr 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Next Insurance in Aug 2023

      Interview

I had a phone call with the recruiter followed by a one-on-one with the hiring manager. Unfortunately, the hiring manager seemed to exude a condescending demeanor and focused heavily on grilling me about my previous role. Their questions were incredibly specific, almost as if they expected me to recite exact lines of code, which felt unusual. This, coupled with the impression that they were looking down on me for being laid off, left me feeling disrespected. It appeared that their expectations exceeded what was outlined in my resume. Despite feeling uncomfortable, I acknowledge that such experiences are part of the process.

      Interview

It was an hour-and-a-half job interview, over Zoom. He asked me to write pseudo code for leet code questions. When I asked for an example to be provided he didn't really do that.

      Backend Software Engineer Interview

      4 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Waltham, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Next Insurance (Waltham, MA) in Jul 2023

      Interview

The interview never happened, resulting in a disappointing experience. Following my application for the Backend Software Engineer position via their website, I received a message from the recruiter a couple of days later, proposing a conversation. I promptly scheduled a discussion for August 18th. However, the appointed time came and went without a call from her. After waiting five minutes past the scheduled time, I sent an email inquiring if our conversation was still on. Three days later, she responded, apologizing and citing an emergency as the reason for her absence. She proposed rescheduling for August 21st, to which I agreed. Unfortunately, the same pattern repeated itself. August 21st arrived, and once again, she failed to make the scheduled call. On August 24th, she reached out, attributing her absence to a chaotic week and requested that I provide new availability. I accommodated her request by scheduling a call for August 29th. However, on the 29th, she rescheduled our call for a later time that day, without prior notification. By this point, I had grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of professionalism. I decided to wait to see if she would initiate contact, but as before, there was no call, no email, and absolutely no communication whatsoever.
