Applied for three separate jobs. I had a similar experience with all of them. Wouldn't say it was a negative experience but certainly a complete waste of time. They were all rather duplicitous. Initially I was told I would get a second interview and a call back the next day then without any explanation, I got a rejection letter stating that they were going with people with better related experience. The job description stated no experience necessary. I have cumulative 10 years in hospitality and customer service. And the job is still up over a month later. Similar experience for the other two. Room service was told they were going with people with more. "extensive" related experience. Taking orders and bringing prepared meals to people's rooms yeah I think I got that. Overall, very pretentious you could tell they wanted to boost their egos by emphasizing the status of their hotel rather than acknowledging that the majority of people could do their jobs. It just requires being attentive, kind, and moderately fit.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell us about a difficult situation you handled in your previous position.
I had two interviews. One over the phone that was a brief conversation with a few questions and then one in person with two different people. They asked similar questions and i felt i did really well.
I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Newport Restaurant Group (Newport, RI) in Aug 2015
Interview
It was a very stuffy interview; one- on- one with management that seemed to be boring holes through you with their eyes. Be prepared for questions flying at you in reference to the traditional; for ie., length of time in the field, strength on the floor, knowledge of the menu and beverage selections including all beer, wine (glass and bottles,) and all specialty drinks currently posted including their ingredients and preparation.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Knowledge of fine wines; pairings with those wines with food items from their menu.
