      Financial Advisor Interview

      4 May 2023
      Anonymous employee
      San Antonio, TX
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at New York Life (San Antonio, TX) in Mar 2023

      Interview

The interview process took like 15 minutes and he quickly skimmed through the compensation where he quickly went over the TAS (TRAINING ASSISTANCE subsidy), not realizing its not for training but only if you get a certain amount of commission per month. Second, since it's only a commission based job, you could theoretically go several months without getting paid since your contract only triggers if you make 1700 dollars and 6 appointments in one month, and if you fail to achieve that goal, the requirement doubles. Third, there is no budget for lunch and learns, client lunches, traveling, etc. There is a high possibility, if you don't have a nest egg, to go into debt. Fourth, they tried to get me to sell to my friends and family. Lol, half my family are dead and I have no friends. Most of my contacts were stores and restaurants. I think if you have a large book of business, large family, and a good amount of savings, you might do ok. The entire time, though, the interviewer talked about how much money you could make. That's how they get you. Fifth, they didn't really ask any questions besides, how many years have you done sales. But it felt as if I already got the job. It didn't feel as if I was being selected among a group of people. Which is a red flag.

      Interview

Don't waste time with this company. This gave me a wrong interview time, I showed up but no one is there, I can't reached out to anyone. IT WASTE MY WHOLE DAY! After almost 5 hrs of the scheduled meeting time, someone finally replied me with only one sentence, they never scheduled me for that time, I provided them with evidences about the meeting time, they just made up a meeting time no one ever told me. Very unprofessional.
