      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at New Relic

      Interview

Initial screening with a recruiter, then a screening with the hiring manager. I was invited to the virtual on-site with several members of the team, spread across two days in 3 hour increments. I completed my onsite with more conversations with the recruiter and hiring manager. I was updated frequently throughout the process by the recruiter, and it was a very positive and informative experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at New Relic (Portland, OR) in Dec 2019

      Interview

I have to say it was quite refreshing and human, and a very different experience as compared to the Silicon Valley interviews that I've typically experienced. The in-house recruiter during the on-site made sure everyone kept to their allotted time, which ensured that no one later in the day ran out of time. The people that I had talked to were clearly talented in their areas, and we had great engaging discussions that deep dived across many subjects. One thing that really stood out for me were the small details. Things that indicated that clearly there was discussion of "how could we make every step in the process as positive and human as possible." For example they provided (what I would call) an interviewee survival pack (lip balm, mints, etc...), and that really stood out as I had never seen a company do this. And although it's simple, and any company could easily do the same, it exampled to me that the company genuinely cares about people. Along with things like a tour, and observing how others interacted with each other, the design of the building, all these well curated break out rooms, open areas, and smaller pods (when you need focus time), it was fairly evident a lot of time and effort has gone into very intentionally creating an experience that empowers people to optimize how/where they want to be in order to do their best work, down to the last detail. If you see an opportunity at New Relic that feels like it's your cup of tea, I would highly recommend you inquire, as companies with a culture like New Relic's are exceptionally rare. High Level Process: * Video interviews with the hiring manager and a few other key stakeholders * On-site all-day interview with members of PeopleOps (HR), Directors and VPs of Engineering and Product Management, and Software Architects * HR kept me up to date of the status while they vetted all candidates * Offer proposed * Offer accepted

      Question 1

Questions ranged from leadership style, software design, people management, situational scenarios, self-awareness, and deep dives into your accomplishments and how you achieved it.
