Multiple rounds of interviews with editors at various levels. The last interview took an entire afternoon. In the end they were interviewing me for a vertical where I had less experience (did not specify this at the start of the process).

I was contacted by a recruiter via several months after submitting an online application. She asked to schedule a phone call to discuss the position further. On the day, the recruiter called promptly, and was personable and informative. At the end of the call, she invited me to participate in a writing test, which I had a week to complete. Once I submitted the writing test, I was contacted within a few hours to schedule a video interview. Since the interview would last over 3 hours, they were very flexible in working around my current work schedule. The interview was one of the longest and most vigorous in which I've ever participated. I spoke with 9 people total, however each one was prompt, pleasant, and professional. Questions delved into every aspect of my previous experience, as well as behavioral traits and how I might handle hypothetical situations. Like you, I read some of negative interview experiences here and was dubious, but I found every aspect of the recruiting/interview process to be handled extremely well and with the utmost respect for my time.
